Visual goal setting
Whenever we do a kick-off of a new team, we also help them start their journey together by defining their team goal, vision and/or values. This visualisation of the team goal helps the team grow mutual understanding and speed up their team bonding process. Making a visual representation of this goal gives an easy aid to reminding team members of the elements they had all agreed upon.
The techniques you can use for this kind of visual goal setting can be very different, depending on how much play you would like to add to your visual goal setting exercice. Depending on the team and the context, I tend to use different techniques to help the team visualise their goal, ranging from a poster session over a cover story over a product box to a Lego® Serious Play® workshop, as you can see in the below examples:
This visual representation of the team's goal can then be a constant reminder to the team of their common understanding and the goals they want to work towards.
